Research
University of Warsaw Botanic Garden is a department of the Faculty of Biology UW. Our research focus mainly on pollination biology and ecology and include also evolution of plant breeding systems. We apply a mixture of classical field experiments and observations, and modern lab techniques (molecular phylogenetics, electron and confocal microscopy, chromatography, etc.) to explore the diversity of plants’ pollination systems and breeding strategies. Our graduate and post-graduate students make an important contribution to our projects, they usually become co-authors of our papers. Majority of our research projects concentrate on endangered plant species, either in national (Polemonium caeruleum), European (Ostericum palustre) or global scale (genus Fritillaria, family Orchidaceae).
